I am back from my blogging hiatus. Forced by extenuating, challenging circumstances – in other words, Life happened. As unannounced and difficult as it was, the important part Now is to re-engage. And, that’s what I want to talk about today.
Whether it be an extenuating circumstance, holiday time festivities, a house full of guests or the slippery slope of ignoring a habit we desire to change, when disengagement happens, it’s often hard to rev up our engine and start down the road again.
So what can we do to get back on the path when we veer off?
Consider implementing the following Five Steps:
Forgive yourself for falling off the path: Silence the critic! Beating yourself up is a waste of good energy that can be put towards re-engagement.
Start small: If taking up where you left off feels overwhelming, take smaller steps. Do-able tasks ensure success and encourage you to make the next ones.
Allot time and mental space: If your re-engagement requires time, such as mine does, put it in your daily schedule, do what you can in the time allotted and choose to be satisfied with what you accomplish. If yours requires a shift in thought or habit (i.e. diet), write out an affirmation or two that support you and read them throughout the day.
List your resources: Make a list of resources, people, organizations, books, etc. that you can go to for help and know will support your re-engagement.
Believe in yourself: Trust that you have everything within you to resume what you want to do and be confident in your success!
Life is full of challenges, my friends. How we face them is important, but how we move on from them is paramount to successful living.
Blessings, Plynn
