A Meditation … Just for Today

These days it seems that each week becomes more devastating, more desolate, more complicated than the previous one. What do we do? Pray for others; volunteer time; send money; write to those in power; protest; scream into a pillow? It’s hard to know where to place oneself in all of it.

But, I know this. Whatever action each of us chooses, the best one always reveals itself when we come from a place of calm and compassion rather than fear and frustration. An affirming reflection or meditation done on a regular basis can be a powerful way to help keep us centered and grounded in a world that often flips us on our ear without notice.

I wrote this meditation for myself some time ago and it feels right to share it with you now. I invite you to recite it to yourself each morning or throughout the day as you face challenges or feel overwhelmed, recognizing that holding out for some secure moment that may or may not come to pass only compromises your ability to take positive action and move forward, so …

Just for today, I want ease, gentleness and joy.

I choose to be aware of my breath Now, letting the in-breath gather any tension, sorrow, anger and fear from my body and releasing it with the out-breath, until I feel clear, clean and centered in my whole being.

Just for today, I will let the hours unfold as they are meant to be and listen for the small song that wants to play its melody in the cells of my being, so that all within me beats in time to my Best Story, my True North.

Peace & Blessings,  Plynn
