Spring is in the air and many of us have the itch to clean house – the closets, cupboards, windows, sheds, garages – both physical and emotional. Why not take the opportunity to do so?
My sister and co-facilitator at Your Liminal Space, Elaine Kinney, wrote a great piece on cleaning up and de-cluttering our lives. Be inspired!
Get rid of what you don’t need! Clutter in your home, clothes you do not wear, excess of any kind, including memories and emotions. We often carry a lot of old emotional garbage from our past, and as it ages it often becomes pungent and heavier.
What does it cost us to carry around all that garbage we do not need?
It costs us our physical and mental well being – a very high price for something that belongs in a different time and space. Though it is in the past, we insist on keeping it close by. Like the clutter in our homes, we often stop truly seeing it and so continue to live with it as if it belongs with us.
Put it down! Throw it out!
Open that bag you have been carrying and sort through it. Let go of what is of no use to you. Resentments, jealousy, fears, shame, pain, confusion – once examined, these can be put aside. You will be surprised how much lighter life feels when you give yourself the gift of de-cluttering your inner life.
Consider that everything consists of energy, and when we move energy out or change the ratio of energy of our life sphere, we create space for new energy to come in. Practically speaking, if you cull your closets and either sell or donate the unwanted items, you create dollars, satisfaction or both! When you examine, release and change old habits or ways of thinking, you create mental/emotional space for new ways of being, new ideas and new passions to start to manifest.
Sometimes “the new” comes in quickly, while other times it’s important to do the clearing and then let things be. Let the physical spaces, emotional spaces, mental spaces be empty. Take a breather. “Nothing” may be the best medicine for a time. Feel the openness that has been created. When that space it ready to be filled, the right thing will come along.
Happy Spring Cleaning!
Blessings,
Plynn
